Online Facilitation and Blogging

Whew - this has taken me some time to set up, I have some huge learning to do! After setting up my blog and then working out eventually that I needed to create an URL let alone know what it was, I now feel ready to embark on a rather steep learning curve.

  1. Hi Wendel, great to hear from you. Yes, this course will be a huge learning curve. There may well be times that you wonder if it is worth it. But look on this course as a door...that you have to walk through...to get to the other side. This course will only be a beginning...what it leads to will be up to you :)

(Blimmy, that's very philosophical for early Sunday morning...must have been quite a glass of wine I had last night :) )

  6. Well I am not sure that I have made much progress with this so far, I am looking forward to joining the session this evening. I have had a couple of video sessions with interesting people, both in NZ and Australia.

  7. Hi Wendel,
No need to be so self-effacing about using technology. Who was the first person to launch video at this morning's (sorry, evening's for you folk Down Under) meeting? ;-)
Looking forward to working with you.
    Cheers,
    Chris

  8. It was great to get underway and begin the journey. There is so much to remember and thanks for all the encouragement- you are a great team and made it all sound easy.

I was surprised how easy the seminar was last night, clear instruction and easy to follow.

I am looking forward to joining some of the smaller interest groups, in particular with those of you involved in Education and especially those in the ACE Sector.

  9. I was very pleasantly surprised too at how well the sessions went from a technological point of view. There were a couple of people who could not get through to us, but on the whole things went really well.

From my point of view, the sessions emphasised that with a big group where there's lots of interaction, you need at least 2 people doing the moderating - one to do the talking and one to keep an eye on what else is going on.

great to have the community development focus that a REAP person brings in our mix.
    Have you connected with
Jane Scrips who has interesting boat building ideas for Northland ACE.

  11. A little bit about myself

I am the Education Team Leader at Wairarapa REAP. Wairarapa REAP is a Non Profit organisation with a focus on lifelong learning. From babies through to older folk and every one in between. We have a great team - 2 of them are also participating in the online facilitation course. As well as organising and running courses and programmes with communities we also play a key role in community development.

In my spare time (not) I am working at completing a Graduate Diploma in Not for Profit Management - 3 papers to go!

I am also Co Chair for ACE Aotearoa an organisation that is representative of the Adult and Community Education Sector.

I am involved with many networks in the education sector and within our own community, I am looking forward to better utilising the tools that we all have at our finger tips. Email and tele conferencing are the two that I am most familiar with, these are great but I know there are other ways that are more suitable when connecting with others that are some distance away.

I would like to be able to facilitate online meetings, plan events, explore ways to plan and be involved in some ongoing projects, and also discover and explore other great ways we can plan and communicate together that I don't yet know about.

  17. Hello Wendel,

I don't know if you recall meeting me at ACE conferences and Adult Learner Week meetings. Are you still blogging and on the course or has that finished for you.
